Many of you know that international adoptions from Guatemala have been plagued with countless difficulties, changes, and delays over the past many months. At this point in time, no new international adoptions can be initiated in Guatemala, and children that are still in the process of being adopted are lingering in foster care for an indefinite and expanding length of time. Families Thru International Adoption (FTIA) alone has over 75 children remaining in foster care in Guatemala. Foster care has historically been one of the unique characteristics of Guatemalan adoption, providing children individualized care and love, monthly medical exams, and family socialization. But this level of care costs money and requires supplies. Part of adopting parents’ international fees cover much of the cost of foster care, but this is based on the period of time that cases typically took to process in the past. Now, adoptions are taking months and months longer, with no additional funds coming in. FTIA and the attorneys they work with in Guatemala are doing everything in their power to ensure the children who are waiting continue to receive the best foster care, but they need your support!
Please click the “Donate” button below or mail a check payable to “Childvision” with “Guatemala Foster Care Support” in the memo line. 100% of donations in support of this effort will go directly toward providing tangible and needed supplies - items such as formula, diapers, and/or monthly medical exams - for the children in foster care through FTIA’s Guatemala program. Please help us ensure the children who are caught in these delays continue to grow in a healthy, loving environment until they are united with their adoptive families.
